The Admissions Company LogoWhat does it really take to get into Harvard? That’s the question high school students and their parents alike, ask every year. Plenty of ink has been spilled, warning of the seemingly dismal odds of admission for even the best and the brightest. And truth be told, with about a 5% acceptance rate at this school, and similar odds at the top 10 ranked schools in the country, competition is enormous.

In a June 2014 Atlantic interview, Harvard’s president described how the school is looking for unique individuals who offer a range of different qualities. There’s no shortage of books urging students to go beyond traditional credentials for admissions, arguing the lists of “unique” experiences will guarantee admission. Many bright, diligent students, and parents, are often at a loss over just where to turn their attention and focus their energies. Good grades? Check. Strong standardized test scores? Check. Extracurriculars? Check. Now what? Now, how do I get into my top choice schools?

Uniqueness is a quality that seems ethereal to most people. The common misconception about uniqueness is that it is an innate quality that cannot be cultivated. Most seem to associate being unique with some aspect of themselves that they see as fixed.

Colleges – especially the top tier – are looking for individuals who are able to go beyond the standard accomplishments and demonstrate a spark that shines beyond their peers. This kind of uniqueness can be learned, developed and mastered in a manner that can significantly increase your odds of gaining acceptance to the best colleges in the land.

To be unique, you must demonstrate that you have the curiosity to seek a path that diverges from the crowd – even if ever so slightly. You must have the grit to withstand the challenges that come with being unique. You must have the discipline to pursue your path to its end and master whatever you’ve chosen to demonstrate your uniqueness. Finally, you must be able to communicate why you’re unique.

This is where The Admissions Company comes in; this is where we show our clients how to stand out from the crowd, how to rise above the noise, how to gain admission.

We’ve not only developed a unique method, rooted in data and formulas, but we’ve also been there ourselves. We spend on average between 100 and 200 hours with our clients, getting to know them and learning just what is particularly unique about them. This allows us to match the students with the right schools, and help them gain admission to the top colleges and universities in the country. We’ve been doing this for over a decade, and we guide our clients through this arduous process as they reach their potential and gain admission.
