Course Description

In 2017, TJHSST changed its admissions test and the testing date.  Read about it here. Inspiring’s TJ Admissions Prep course has adapted and reflects those changes.

“A combination of two different tests—the ACT Aspire and Quant Q—were selected to replace the old test.  The ACT Aspire test will test reading and science skills, and the Quant Q will test math skills.
These tests replace the previous exam and will be administered on November 18, 2017. No other changes will be made to the TJHSST admissions process. Additional information about semifinalist determination will be released by May 1, 2017.”

In the comprehensive course, we emphasize math, science skills, verbal, essay, SIS, and admissions counseling in that order.  The amount of time spent in each area depends on the needs of the group – hence the importance of the mini-math pre-test (see link below).  Our practice tests will reflect the expected changes in the test.

TJ Admissions Prep Schedule

Register to prepare for the TJ test in November  2019!

This TJ test preparation class will consist of 12 meetings: 6 testing sessions and 6 instructional classes.  Classes size is limited to 12 students grouped by beginning math scores.

The initial class assignment will be based on the mini-math diagnostic test that is taken at home before the first class meeting. It is important that the test is strictly timed so the student is assigned to the class that best suits him or her. If the results vary greatly from the group, Kate Dalby will discuss the matter before final class placement.

Classes are held for six weekends starting the weekend of September 28/29.  Registration requires an hour long mini-math test, which is given at home.

Meeting Dates & Times

In 2019, we plan to hold classes on Sunday at 2pm and 5pm, and during the week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6:45pm.  Our weekday classes are stand alone, meaning a student can sign up and pay for part of the course. Weekly practice tests are on Saturdays (for students taking the Sunday class) and Sundays (for the students taking the following Tuesday or Wednesday class).  We have set up a schedule that leads up to the test on Saturday, November 9.

You may pre-register without paying and pay once classes are filled or by August 29.  Once you pay, remember to book the testing time on the preceding Saturday.  If you wish to take a weekday stand-alone class, keep in mind that the testing for those classes are the previous Sunday.

Before you register to prepare for the November 2019 TJ test, read this for class selection:

To determine which time slot is most appropriate take our at-home math evaluation test (see link above). Starting May 2019 this test is automatically graded  and we send scores with evaluation via email.   The 2pm Sunday class is designed for students scoring between 30-39/50 (60-78%) on this test; the 5 pm Sunday class is designed for students scoring between 40-45/50 (80-90%) on the math evaluation.  Students who are ultra high scorers (90%+) are invited to take our 3-hour proctored exam of math, reading, and science and to sign up for 1+ sessions of the weekday course (either Tuesday or Wednesday).

If you are unsure which class is right for you, consult with Kate at 703.203.5796 or email her at kvs@katedalby.com before signing up. We reserve the right to cancel a class session due to insufficient enrollment.
